Launch of 25T Bollard Pull Tug Yuvan

As part of the Indian Navy’s modernization and operational support initiatives, the construction and delivery of six 25-tonne Bollard Pull (BP) Tugs are underway under a contract with M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), in alignment with the Government of India’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. These vessels, built under the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), are destined for deployment at the Andaman and Nicobar Command and the Eastern Naval Command.

On 17 November 2024, the fourth Tug of the series, Yuvan, was launched in a ceremony presided over by Commodore Ceasar Basu, Group Commander, NCC Kolkata. The event also marked the keel laying for the fifth and sixth Tugs, Ojas and Sabal, at the M/s TRSL facility in Kolkata. These vessels are scheduled for delivery to the Indian Navy by 2025.

  • Operational Assistance: These tugs are designed to assist naval ships and submarines during berthing, un-berthing, turning, and maneuvering in confined waters.
  • Firefighting Support: Equipped to provide afloat firefighting capabilities for naval platforms, both alongside and at anchorage.
  • Search and Rescue: The tugs possess limited search and rescue operational capabilities, further enhancing their utility.
