The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched the Young Scientist Programme, known as YUVIKA 2025, to inspire and educate students about space science and technology. This initiative aims to nurture young minds and encourage them to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Programme Overview:

  • Duration: May 19 to May 31, 2025
  • Locations: The programme will be conducted at seven ISRO centres:
    • Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram
    • Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad
    • U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru
    • Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), Sriharikota
    • National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad
    • Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun
    • North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NE-SAC), Shillong

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Academic Requirement: Students who have completed 8th grade and are currently enrolled in the 9th grade as of January 1, 2025.
  • Selection Criteria: Selection is based on the following weighted parameters:
    • Academic Performance in 8th Grade: 50%
    • Performance in Online Quiz: 10%
    • Participation in Science Fairs (last three years): 2% to 10%
    • Rank in Olympiads or Science Competitions (last three years): 2% to 5%
    • Sports Achievements (last three years): 2% to 5%
    • Membership in Scouts and Guides/NCC/NSS (last three years): 5%
    • Study in Rural Schools (Panchayat areas): 15%

Application Process:

  1. Registration: Interested students must register online at the official YUVIKA portal: https://jigyasa.iirs.gov.in/yuvika. The registration period is from February 24 to March 23, 2025.
  2. Online Quiz: After registration, students are required to participate in an online quiz within 48 hours.
  3. Application Form: Post-quiz, students should log in to the YUVIKA portal to complete and submit the online application form. It’s advisable to download a copy of the submitted form for reference.
  4. Document Upload: Upload a signed copy of the application form along with all necessary certificates before the registration deadline.

Important Dates:

  • Registration Start Date: February 24, 2025
  • Registration End Date: March 23, 2025
  • Release of First Selection List: April 7, 2025
  • Reporting Date at ISRO Centres: May 18, 2025

Financial Support:

  • Travel Expenses: ISRO will reimburse travel expenses for selected students, covering II AC train fare or AC bus fare by authorized transport from the nearest railway station or bus terminal to the reporting centre and back. Original travel tickets must be produced for reimbursement.
  • Accommodation and Meals: All course materials, lodging, and boarding during the programme will be provided by ISRO.
