Shri Shekhawat spoke about India’s initiative to set up a Dashboard for Global Best Practices, which received strong support from the G-20 member nations. This dashboard, developed during India’s G-20 presidency, aims to aggregate best practices and support data-driven decision-making in tourism. The Minister emphasized the importance of skilling human capital for global service delivery, supporting MSMEs to generate local employment, and effective destination management.

He also highlighted the outcomes of India’s G-20 presidency, including the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and the ‘Goa Roadmap for Tourism,’ which are pivotal for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He stressed the need for inclusive and resilient tourism policies, aligning with India’s theme: “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

India’s five key areas for sustainable tourism—Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills Development, Tourism MSMEs, and Destination Management—were well received and are considered essential for addressing future challenges in the tourism sector.

The Travel for LiFE program, introduced under Mission LiFE, was also discussed as a global movement led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This program prioritizes green tourism and aims to promote environmental sustainability through tourism.

Shri Shekhawat supported the UNWTO’s initiative for a Statistical Framework to serve as a knowledge hub for aggregating global best practices and case studies to measure tourism sustainability. He expressed optimism that the discussions at the G-20 Ministerial Meeting would help build empowered communities and improve the quality of life, calling for continued collaboration and innovation to ensure that tourism remains a driver of growth and contributes to sustainable development.

The Minister also engaged in bilateral talks with his counterparts from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UAE, Singapore, Spain, Japan, and the Czech Republic. Additionally, he held a brief meeting with the USA representative to discuss issues related to facilitating tourist flows and other significant matters for the tourism sector. He was accompanied by the Director General of Tourism, Ms. Mugdha Sinha, and other officials.
