Key Highlights of the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card

  1. Target Group: Senior citizens aged 70 and above, irrespective of income class (poor, middle class, or wealthy).
  2. Benefits:
  • Free hospital treatment under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
  • Coverage includes critical and non-critical health services such as surgeries, diagnostic tests, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Immediate coverage of pre-existing diseases.
  • Reduction of out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure for seniors.
  1. Enrollment Milestone:
  • Over 10 lakh senior citizens have enrolled within three weeks of the card’s launch.
  • More than 4 lakh women have registered.
  1. Treatments Authorized:
  • Services worth over ₹9 crore have benefited 4,800 senior citizens, including treatments for angioplasty, hip replacement, gallbladder removal, cataracts, and strokes.

Progress of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY

Launched in 2018, PM-JAY remains the world’s largest health assurance scheme:

  • Coverage: ₹5 lakh per family annually, benefiting nearly 55 crore individuals.
  • Cards Created: Over 35.45 crore Ayushman Cards.
  • Hospital Network: 30,745 empanelled hospitals, including public and private facilities.
  • Admissions: Authorized treatments for 6.5 crore patients, with admissions valued at ₹81,979 crore.

The Vay Vandana Card extends PM-JAY’s inclusivity to the elderly, emphasizing the government’s commitment to universal healthcare.
